Looking Past Today

Event Planners Kalin Stallard and her partner Aileen Quinn’s business thrives in New York City after five years together. Life is good until fate forces Kalin to relive a past heartbreak. Her college sweetheart, the one who left her to pursue a career as quarterback with the New York Flames, appears on her doorstep just before her current fiancé arrives for date night. With the help of her business partner, she navigates through that memory only to later come face-to-face with supposed infidelities from her current love, a famous New York Temper soccer player by the name of Rowan Hayes. Kalin cannot believe Rowan would be unfaithful to her and disregards the social media posts until her ex, Colter Dawson, supplies proof. Is the proof real? Who should she believe?

While dealing with that torment, business contracts decline. Kalin and Aileen scramble to fill the hole in the dike which has disrupted their near-perfect professional lives. Forced to move their operation to conserve money, Kalin and Aileen accept an offer from Kalin’s lost love, Colter Dawson. 

Limiting the possibilities, Kalin and Aileen, with Colter assisting, devise a plan to entrap whoever is responsible for the attacks on their business. Will it work or will the young entrepreneurs be forced to close their doors?

After waiting for the most opportune moment and with nothing to lose, Colter finally expresses his desire to rekindle his and Kalin’s college romance. She’s scared because of their shared history. Can she trust him again? Or will he drop her if demands from his current position require it?

Looking Past Today has captured a story of failed romances and reborn hope. With the intrigue of love and desire for her business to be successful, Kalin must make many difficult decisions that will keep you guessing. Lynne did a great job compelling the characters to make the correct decision in order to reach hope. Reading this book was a fun, relaxing read, and I highly recommend it.

What I enjoyed the most about this story is the strength of Kalin and Aileen. They had determination and intelligence without influence from men. The author also showed the soft side of the girls. I truly enjoyed this story.

Kalin’s love, disappointment, and broken heart depicts many young women. Fortunately, she doesn’t dwell on the past, but gathers strength and pursues her lifelong dream, along with the perfect business partner. But when will love find her again?

Did Kalin make the correct decision which allowed Colter back into her life? I didn’t agree. But, with so many twists and turns the reader has a tough time deciding who to root for. Another great read by author Lynne Anders.
